Chris Jones: Super PAC Ad Protecting French Hill Is False

LITTLE ROCK, AR – A new ad from the Committee for American Leadership claims that Chris Jones supports gender-transition surgeries for children. That claim is a lie. Jones opposes those surgeries for minors. Jones opposes those surgeries being paid for with our tax dollars.

The Committee for American Leadership is a super PAC that has spent about $1 million attacking Jones in his race against Rep. French Hill. The ad, called “Dangerous Prescription,” twists a 2022 statement in which Jones said he would not have signed Act 626. That 2021 Arkansas law went well beyond surgery. Jones said those decisions belong to parents and their children’s doctors, not the state. Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson vetoed the same bill.

“This ad isn’t true, and the people paying for it know that,” Jones said. “I don’t support those surgeries for children, and I certainly do not support tax dollars paying for them. I’m a dad of three girls, and I believe parents and doctors, not politicians or the government, should make medical decisions for kids. These folks have spent a million dollars on attack ads because they don’t want to talk about what families in this district are dealing with. They don’t want to talk about the fact that French Hill made it more expensive to be poor. They want us to ignore the fact that people are paying more for groceries, rent, and health care, and Congressman Hill voted for a law that cuts nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid. This race is about making sure a family in Searcy or Benton or Menifee can pay the bills, see a doctor, and still have enough left to build something for their kids. That’s what I’m fighting for.”

The campaign’s lawyers have contacted TV stations airing the ad with a demand to cease and desist running it because of the false claim.

Early voting is happening now and runs through 5 p.m. on Monday, November 2. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.

“I’m ready to fight for the things that matter to Arkansans when I represent AR-02 in D.C.,” Jones said in closing.
