1. Sheriff Eric Higgins Announces Re-Election Campaign

[Little Rock] – Pulaski County Sheriff Eric Higgins announced today that he will seek re-election. Since first being elected in 2018, Sheriff Higgins has implemented major reforms, introduced innovative programs, and received national recognition for his leadership and commitment to public safety.

“Every day as Sheriff, I’ve seen the difference reform and strong partnerships can make in people’s lives,” Higgins said. “Together, we’ve made great progress in protecting families, improving transparency, and strengthening trust between law enforcement and our community. But there is still more work to be done. I want to continue expanding re-entry programs, building stronger community partnerships, and ensuring our deputies have the tools and training they need to keep Pulaski County safe. I am running for re-election so we can build on the positive changes we’ve started and keep our families safe.”

Under Sheriff Higgins’s leadership, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office became the first in Arkansas to implement “no chokehold” and “duty to intervene” policies, expanded crisis intervention training, and required body cameras in both patrol and detention settings. He has strengthened community engagement through programs like “Supper with the Sheriff,” the CSI Re-Entry Program, and partnerships with organizations that distribute food and resources to families in need.

Sheriff Higgins’s reform-minded approach has drawn national attention, including a Netflix documentary that highlighted his innovative jail experiment focused on reducing recidivism and restoring dignity to detainees. His work has been honored with multiple awards and he has been invited to speak at national conferences on criminal justice reform and community policing.

A 35-year veteran of law enforcement, Sheriff Higgins previously served as Assistant Chief of Police with the Little Rock Police Department. He grew up in Little Rock, graduated from Catholic High School, and earned both a bachelor’s degree in government and business and a master’s degree in executive leadership and counseling from Liberty University.

Higgins and his wife Caron have been married for 30 years, are members of St. Mark Baptist Church, and have two daughters.
