Please mark your calendar for Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. for an exciting evening of reflections, music and poetry. Stacey McAdoo, Arkansas’ 2020 Teacher of the Year, will receive our Spirit of Maya Award. The award will be presented during the organization’s annual FriendRaiser. The Spirit of Maya Award is presented to an individual who reflects literary icon Maya Angelou’s work toward bettering the world. It is awarded during the organization’s FriendRaiser, its annual fundraiser and donor appreciation event. “I love statement shirts. One that I wear often says, ‘My ancestors are proud.’ Receiving the Spirit of Maya Award makes me want to pull out that T-shirt and hug myself,” McAdoo said. “I have an enormous amount of admiration and respect for Mrs. Janis Kearney and the work that Celebrate! Maya has done to promote literacy and honor Dr. Angelou’s legacy. To be thought of as someone who embodies lessons Maya Angelou taught us is both humbling and exciting.” Read Bio |
