3. Arkansas MLK Commission, U.S. Bank Launch Program to Assist Families With Becoming Homeowners

The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, in collaboration with U.S. Bank, proudly introduces the Access Home Community Impact Initiative 2024, which aims to dismantle barriers that low-to-moderate-income families face on their path to homeownership. A kickoff event will be held at 1 p.m. July 29, 2024, at United Real Estate, 1319 Broadway, Little Rock.

Aligned with A.C.A. § 25-24-102, the initiative includes a comprehensive Financial Literacy Toolkit, vendor partnerships, promotional efforts, virtual and in-person community-based work groups, needs assessments, interactive online lessons, progress tracking, and a completion ceremony.

“In one of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s speeches he stated, ‘You can use your powerful economic resources to wipe poverty from the face of the earth,’” DuShun Scarbrough, the commission’s executive director, said. “The path to home ownership is a step in that direction. Homeownership should be accessible to all families, regardless of their economic background, and this initiative brings us closer to making that a reality.”

The commission is conducting a survey regarding challenges people face in becoming homeowners. Survey responses will assist with tailoring programs to better serve the community’s needs. The survey is available at:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScSAmnM7KFcqV0Wn9RmLc2yRD1WYQwQgmmT3TWNLt_kusQ6A/viewform

Once the survey has been completed participants will receive an invitation to attend the kickoff event.

The Commission also is taking the lead on establishing community work groups to assist with the program. For more information or to participate, contact DuShun Scarbrough at 888-290-KING.
